Experienceing Shu umera from a customer’s view point
The Shu Umera counter in Selfridges situated to the left amongst the other beauty concessions, was as busy and inviting as the others. Its clean white surfaces, mirrored blocks and bold Black Logo, positively drew me towards the collections. The lit up photographic images and panels sitting under the products then brought the focus on Shu Umeras collections. The first products to catch the eye are the range of colour displays in eye shadows and lipsticks, followed by the awe at noticing the intricacy in eyelash design.
At this point one of the five or six staff at the Shu Umera counter rushes over offering help and showing me other lashes. He is a stylishly dressed, small Asian man, pleasant and enthusiastic. Moving quickly around the stand he encourages me to choose some lashes offering free application by himself and the chance to interactively choose my own gems and lash style and colours to create my own unique lashes for under £20.
Naturally I couldn’t refuse and while seating me and applying my personalised lashes he explains what he is doing, what glue and other make up tools he is using and how I should apply them myself at home. He also gives me pricing for further accessories and I ask him about his customers. He tells me that he frequently has repeat client base of varied age, younger women choosing bright colours and eyelashes, older focusing on bronzer mixes and also that his regular customers tend to be Asian.
As I pay at the counter I notice the screens playing ‘Tokyo Lash Factory’ images and girt sets on the till. I take my Selfridges bag (slightly disappointed it wasn’t a Shu umera bag) with the box to keep my lashes in and receipt inside and pleasantly waved on. Actually an idealistic shopping experience and the products, visual displays and service were fantastic. Apart from hoping for free decorative packaging or Shu Umrea style wrapping I felt sure that the brand had what it takes to maintain customer loyalty and that currently a lot more potential customers need to be made aware and drawn to the Shu umera product range.
